Kentucky Online Casino Games Lobby Accused of Partisanship by GOP
The Kentucky Equine Education Project (KEEP), the Kentucky horse- racing lobby group that seeks to add casino games at racetracks throughout the state, has angered many of Kentucky’s most prominent Republican lawmakers.
email announced that the casino games organization’s political action committee had either raised, or committed itself to raising, over $50,000 each for two Democrats running in special elections.
Senate President David Williams, a Burkesville Republican, said that the casino games organization is partisan in its donations.
"It revealed that there is a concerted effort by the KEEP organization to raise a lot of money to help Democrats," Williams said. "Brereton Jones is just trying to take over the Senate because he knows he can't come over and bully people around."
In protest, Williams returned a $1,000 donation from KEEP last month.
KEEP is headed by former Governor Brereton Jones, a Democrat. Jones denied that his group is influenced by partisan politics.
"We, like every organization, want to support those people who are supporting issues we're interested in," Jones said.
